The ITB is a band that runs down the outside of the quad and quite commonly causes issues with runners, cyclists, and people just like you.  The main issue I see associated with ITB pain is Hip Pain and Knee Pain.

If the ITB becomes excessively tight for whatever reason it can affect the tracking of the knee and in my experience pull the kneecap to the lateral edge and start to cause inflammation on the outside of the knee due to the kneecap to sitting flush on the kneecap/meniscus.

ITB pain can plague people for years and years and most people resign to the fact that it is just part of their life and consequently, put up with it.  I can reassure you that I have successfully treated ITB pain countless times whilst working as a Remedial Massage Therapist in Brisbane and around Australia.  You don’t need to put up with the pain in your ITB, it can be improved, there can be change, you can and will get back to running, or competing without pain, I assure you!
