Lower back pain explained

There are always many factors to lower back pain, but there are always themes:

  • Weak core, pelvic floor, Transverse Abdominis
  • Tight lower back extensors
  • Anteriorly tilted pelvis
  • Short hip flexors
  • Tight Adductors
  • Hamstring imbalances
  • Weak Glutes (typically Gluteus Maximus)

The pattern commonly associated with lower back pain is called the lower cross which is illustrated in the image below. ┬áIn layman’s terms, there are weak and tight muscles and the net result is the pain you are experiencing.

That is why a thorough assessment is critical to developing a treatment plan to achieve a sustainable result to enable you to achieve your goals, pain free, run that marathon, or play with your kids.
