THE EKKA

The EKKA, formally titled as Royal Queensland Show is the annual agricultural show of Queensland, Australia. Initially, it was named as Brisbane Exhibition and the title EKKA is the short form of Exhibition itself. This iconic show with full of traditions and unique atmosphere from Australia has been running since 1876. 

It is the largest and the most beloved annual event in Australia. The average number of people that are attracted by the show is 400,000. It is hosted and run by the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland also known as RNA every year for 10 days in August. The host venue for the show is the Brisbane Showground. 

About the Event

The Ekka has been a great source of bringing together the country, Australia and the city Brisbane for the ultimate celebration of the agriculture. More than 21,000 competition entries from wood chop to giant vegetables are entertained in this annual event including, 10,000 animals from beef cattle to cats and dogs. 

Moreover, the event also has some other exciting stuff for the public interest including world-class live entertainment, award-winning cuisine for the foodies, the fair rides which makes it even more interesting and colorful along with the family shopping stalls and shops, educational activities and so what not.

1. Fresh Food Pavilion 

Fresh Food Pavilion is the savior at EKKA and you can always rely on their cheap yet delicious food. Everything is super tasty and you can have Cozzinger Hotdogs just for $2, cheese toastie with milk for $5 and without milk for $3, and Sushi for $3 to $5. 

2. Free Entertainment Stuff

You can enjoy free music outside the Queensland government pavilion, become a junior police officer just by giving them your finger impressions, watch the wood chop events etc. All these are absolutely free and worth experiencing. 

3. Show bags 

Show bags at EKKA are the energy boosters and they too are just under or either for $5. They include lots of exciting stuff including chips, Bertie beetle, my favorite Cadbury chocolate bags, the bag packs by little miss sunshine backpacks etc. 

4. The Animal Displays 

The sole of the show, animal displays! Most of them are also absolutely free of cost. From the dog displays to the ring events, horses, or the cattle everything is free. You may also go to any of the displays from the Queensland government or fresh food pavilions either side of Gregory Terrace.

If you have a choice to visit Brisbane anytime in the year, we recommend you visit during the days when EKKA is happening. It is the most awaited and most loved event by both the locals and visitors.
