Lower back pain explained
There are always many factors to lower back pain, but there are always themes:
- Weak core, pelvic floor, Transverse Abdominis
- Tight lower back extensors
- Anteriorly tilted pelvis
- Short hip flexors
- Tight Adductors
- Hamstring imbalances
- Weak Glutes (typically Gluteus Maximus)
The pattern commonly associated with lower back pain is called the lower cross which is illustrated in the image below. In layman’s terms, there are weak and tight muscles and the net result is the pain you are experiencing.
That is why a thorough assessment is critical to developing a treatment plan to achieve a sustainable result to enable you to achieve your goals, pain free, run that marathon, or play with your kids.
